Women and Heart Disease: Broken Heart Syndrome

While 'broken heart syndrome' may sound like the theme of a romance novel, it's a very real health condition that mostly affects women. In fact, more than 90 percent of reported cases occur in women ages 58 to 75. 

Also called takotsubo cardiomyopathy or stress cardiomyopathy, broken heart syndrome is a condition in which the heart muscle suddenly becomes weakened or stunned, and the left ventricle, one of the heart's lower chambers that's responsible for pumping oxygen-rich blood to tissues throughout the body, temporarily changes shape.

Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation Event Raises More Than $23K For Cancer Patients

An annual ceremony hosted by the Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation raised tens of thousands for cancer care. The Annual Tree of Life ceremony on Dec. 8 attracted about 75 attendees and raised more than $23,000 to support the Oliva Fund for Cancer Care.

Shotguns become spades in annual gun buyback program in Worcester

70 Worcester County residents turned in 134 unwanted guns in six different towns and cities on the morning of Saturday, Dec. 13, as part of the 24th annual Guns 2 Gardens buyback program, which collects firearms and repurposes their pieces into garden tools.
